Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive CamprodonTravel by train from Barcelona, or by bus from Girona, to the town of Ripoll (approx. 2 hours) where you will be collected and transferred to the charming mountain village of Camprodon.
Wander around the lovely centre with its 12th-century footbridge and many alleys and squares, and enjoy the local specialties of delicious sausages and cured meats.
A family hotel in the heart of Camprodon with incredibly helpful owners, and views over the square. Rooms are comfortable and cosy, and the restaurant serves tasty Catalan specialities.
Begin your day by walking into the High Garrotxa. Your route will take you along the GR11 crossing meadows and lush valleys. Then descend through woodland, passing abandoned farmhouses to arrive at the village of Molló, with its beautiful 12th century Romanesque church.
Ascent/Descent: 355m/125m

Hotel Calitxó is a charming mountain hotel in the Eastern Pyrenees, located in the small village of Molló in the Camprodon Valley and only few minutes from France. The surrounding region boasts a rich history, abundant nature and pleasant landscapes. The hotel is only a few short kilometers from several family-oriented activities, like Molló Parc Animal Park, the Gorges de la Fou and Vallter 2000 ski station. The perfect place to relax and get in touch with nature.
A spectacular walk over two mountain passes lies ahead of you today. Take in impressive panoramic views—to the West, the dramatic Pyrenean peaks, and to the East, the warm, wooded hills of the Garrotxa. A slow, steady climb takes you up the Fembra Morte Pass (1728m). Continue to the Lliens Pass (1864m), a great picnic spot, before continuing across the northern flank of the Puig de les Agudes. Finally, descend to the pretty village of Setcases.
Ascent/Descent: 719m/644m
A beautiful boutique hotel surrounded by the mountains, forests and rivers. It has a spa, sauna and Jacuzzi to soothe tired bones.
You have a choice today. Either enjoy a free day taking in the picturesque village of Setcases. Or leave Setcases on a beautiful circular route, heading up through lush forests of fir and beech trees with mountain streams before the landscape transforms into rugged alpine terrain, with granite peaks piercing the sky. The panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and peaks are awe-inspiring, offering glimpses of the natural beauty of this region. The challenging but rewarding hike culminates at the summit of Costabona, standing at a height of 2,465 meters (8087ft), where you are rewarded with sweeping vistas of the high Pyrenees before you make your descent back down to Setcases.

The best way to visit the Núria valley, this wonderful railway line covers a distance of 12km and an incline of over 1000 metres. On arrival visit the Núria monastery, an ancient place of pilgrimage and important cultural centre in the middle ages.
There are plenty of beautiful walks around the monastery, or you can take an optional walk down the valley to Queralbs.
Optional Walk: 7.4km

Off the Beaten Track, Alpine Walking
The minimum age for this tour is: 16 Years
The walk is graded overall as moderate-strenuous. You will be walking on a mixture of rugged tracks, forest paths, farm tracks and narrow mountain paths for between 4-8 hours a day. There are some steeper sections, ascents of up to 980m and a couple of steep descents of up to 1333m. Days 6 and 7 would be graded as strenuous due to the ascents and descents involved and the nature of the terrain you cross on those days. We do not recommend this walk for anybody who suffers from vertigo due to some of the paths having quite sheer drop-offs.
7 nights accommodation is included in hand-picked cosy mountain hotels of a 2-3* standard.
We have carefully selected charming mountain hotels in fantastic locations, which all offer great food and a warm welcome. Here you’ll see a selection of the properties we normally use, however they are subject to availability and therefore alternatives of an equal standard may be offered.
Accommodation Location
We will always try and accommodate you at the locations detailed in your itinerary. Occasionally, because of limited availability, there is the option to be accommodated at an alternative location. In the unlikely event that we have to accommodate you elsewhere, we will advise you of this before confirming your booking
Single Rooms & Solo Walkers
Single rooms are available and a single supplement is payable. Unfortunately, this trip is not available to solo walkers due to the remote nature of some of the walks.
Meals
7 breakfasts are included. Packed lunches are available from your accommodation (order the night before) or you can stop on the way. Dinners are not included as standard but are available either at your overnight accommodation or close by. If you prefer you can choose to upgrade to half board to have your dinner included.
Additional Nights and Extensions
We recommend adding additional nights in either Girona or Barcelona to the start or end of your tour. Girona is a bit of an untapped treasure of a city with an abundance of museums, galleries and Gothic churches as well as some of the best restaurants Catalonia has to offer. And then, of course, you have Barcelona with its fantastic architecture, beautiful medieval quarters and vibrant nightlife.
We can also arrange extra nights at any of the overnight stops on your walk. You may also like to combine this walk with one of our walking holidays in the Costa Brava, for a combination of the mountains and the sea!
We will provide you with detailed route notes and the paths are well-defined and easy to follow so you shouldn’t have any problems finding your way. The trails are a mixture of farm tracks and mountain trails.
